This is a great opportunity to begin your career in the games industry as a QA Technician on the award-winning Total War series. We’re seeking someone with a strong eye for detail, who can take a methodical approach to tasks and problem-solving in order to identify, investigate, and accurately log defects

Key responsibilities

Тhe QA Technician is a flexible and proactive tester who can work as part of a team to effectively seek out and log bugs with the right information and accurate reproduction steps to allow others to re-create bugs for the purpose of fixing.

They are someone who understands game systems very well, can identify a wide range of bugs and their causes and give constructive feedback designed to help improve the quality of a title. 

As a QA Technician you will be asked to work as part of an agile development team to fulfil the teams testing needs. You will learn to specialise in one or more types of testing as well as to use tools and automation to increase the quality testing.

Primary:

  • Find, grade and report bugs completely and concisely on all allocated projects ensuring all required information and attachments are included. Report as many relevant bugs as possible and class them accordingly.
  • Log test results and task progress daily, including completion info status in the requested format.
  • Carry out all testing or feedback assignments on a regular basis and in the given time frame. This could be in the form of completing various requested sweeps, finishing a play through or giving feedback data.
  • Communicate serious and blocker issues ASAP either directly or via email, especially where you expect these may become a MUST FIX issue. Ensure this information has been received by its intended recipient.
  • Reproduce and regress all bugs assigned to you in a timely manner. Your assigned reproduction and regression bugs should be constantly processed as part of the testing cycle.
  • Working with the rest of the development team, aim towards releasing the highest overall quality product possible by the given deadlines. Achieve this primarily by logging and communicating clear and concise bugs.
  • Тake responsibility for an assigned area of test or group of areas, best fitting to your skillset and experience, as arranged by your QA Lead. This may sometimes be generic or via rotation depending on the task or sub-team.
  • Work as part of an Agile team to build relationships, share knowledge and provide testing as part of wider PI or sprint goals.
  • Create and execute test plans designed to provide robust testing of a given feature.
  • Provide gameplay and design feedback in the format requested ensuring that the feedback is both critical and constructive.

Secondary:

  • Keep your lead informed of test progress and flag any additional requests that you require additional help or support with.
  • Carry out specialist QA work to gain enhanced knowledge of the more complex game areas, assigned on a per-project basis, as needed for the QA and development aims of that project, as set by the QA Lead.
  • Use any exposure to development to better understand the development process and apply gained knowledge to help find and log bugs to a higher quality level.
  • Disseminate any specialist or unique knowledge gained from specialist testing or exposure to development to the rest of the QA team. Use stand-ups, workshops and meetings to assist with this aim.


Knowledge, Skill and Experience
Essential

  • A passion for games and game development
  • Strong experience playing strategy games including an understanding of the core principals and mechanics most common in strategy games
  • Experienced PC and console gamer
  • Strong communication and relationship building skills
  • Proficient time management and organisational skills, able to handle multiple tasks and meet set deadlines and priorities
  • A university degree in a relevant field that can be applied to Games Testing
  • Proficient in MS Office suit of tools

Desirable:

  • Strong knowledge of Total War games
  • Previous testing experience either in games or elsewhere
  • Experience working within an Agile development environment
  • Ability to self-manage and generate tasks to drive testing in an area
  • Experience in Test automation
