The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Total War audio department as a Project Audio Director, based within our multi-studio facility, at our Horsham studios, West Sussex.
As a Project Audio Director you will be responsible for defining, communication and owning the audio experience for one of our key projects, collaborating closely with IP Partners and key internal stakeholders.You will be the key contact point for the projects audio related initiatives and will lead planning, scopes, schedules, R&D, creative and technical developments, implementation, mixing, and optimisations. You will work with project directors, project & central development teams and franchise leadership to deliver AAA calibre audio solutions to our projects.
What you’ll be doing
We are looking for a creative and logical thinker, looking to advance craft and quality with a focus on delivering AAA-level audio solutions. As Project Audio Director you will:
Own and communicate a clear audio vision that delivers player value and aligns with project and franchise goals, expectations, and quality bar.
Build strong partnerships with external IP holders, shaping and pitching an audio vision that meets IP standards and champions internal creativity.
Work with franchise and project leadership, production, and audio specialists to define scope, roadmap, resourcing, strategy, initiatives, and budget.
Recruit and establish outsourcing partnerships as part of the projects audio development.
Set and deliver the project’s technical audio plan (systems, tools, and debugging workflows), adopting modern techniques and best practice.
Direct the creation and implementation of all project audio, working with audio specialists and stakeholders to drive efficient production, high quality, and performant content.
Collaborate with peers to improve tools, approaches, processes, and training—reducing the time and effort to go from idea to implementation.
Anticipate and resolve creative and technical risks early through clear communication, creative problem-solving, and proactive planning — keeping the audio vision achievable within scope and schedule.
Report progress, dependencies, and risks clearly to project teams and franchise leadership.
Lead, motivate, grow and support a team of audio specialists through coaching, mentoring, skill development and long-term career progression.
Assist with wider audio department management and hiring.
Run gameplay evaluation sessions and iterate on actions and mix to deliver dynamic, vivid, immersive, world class audio.
Work with QA to define and approve test plans, ensuring audio meets franchise benchmarks and is ready for commercial release.
What we are looking for
Essential
A current showreel demonstrating relevant experience & ability.
Experience of full cycle shipped AAA games as an audio lead or director
Extensive experience working in-house in the games industry in creative audio roles
Strong creative sound design ability
Experienced people manager with inspired leadership skills
Advanced use of commercial or in-house audio engine solutions, workflows and practices
[Wwise, FMOD, Unreal, Unity, ADX2 etc]
Advanced knowledge of leading DAWs (ProTools, Nuendo, Reaper etc)
Strong implementation skills, including systems design and optimisations
Experience with surround formats
Experience with PC and Console hardware, tools and workflows specifics
Embraces new challenges, techniques and workflows
Professional and positive mindset, promoting autonomous workflows
Effective communication, listening and interpretation skills · Strong attention to detail, organised and methodical · Knowledgeable about general game audio techniques, trends and new developments
Passionate about video games
Desirable
Visual scripting experience i.e. Node graph-based or Blueprints
Experienced working with an external IP partner
Experience leading location recordings, Foley sessions
Knowledge and familiarity of Total War brand
